The quaint town of Bisbee, Arizona, is grappling with the aftermath of a devastating fire that ravaged its historic downtown area. The blaze, which ignited on the night of February 14, led to the destruction of two buildings and damage to others amidst the brick-lined charm of this community. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Bisbee Oil & Vinegar store and the Many Fine Things Gallery were the main casualties, with bricks from these century-old structures tumbling into the streets.

No injuries were reported from the incident that shook residents on what was supposed to be a holiday weekend brimming with activity. The fire subsided without harming any people, but it left behind a roadmap for recovery that local businesses and officials must now navigate. "This is more like losing part of your family," Bisbee Mayor Ken Budge told FOX 10 Phoenix, expressing the sentiment of a community that prides itself on tight-knit connections.

Café Roka, another local establishment owned by Rod Kass and his wife, who have deep roots in Bisbee, became a beacon of camaraderie amidst the turmoil. Kass opened his doors to feed the firefighters, reflecting a spirit of mutual aid that seems inherent to Bisbee's residents. "I just went out and said 'hey! have you guys had any access to any food?' and they hadn’t," Kass related in an interview obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. Indeed, the collective response elucidates the town's solidarity in times of crisis.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, state and local authorities have ruled out arson. "We don't believe it's any kind of an arson," Mayor Budge pointed out, emphasizing it was not intentional, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. Despite the devastation, the town is determined to reclaim its eclectic Main Street and esteemed architecture, though Budge acknowledges that Bisbee may never be quite the same.

The Copper Queen Library and nearby Cafe Roka were back in operation by midday Thursday, while a portion of Main Street reopened to pedestrians. However, vehicle traffic remains indefinitely barred from a critical stretch due to ongoing safety concerns. According to AZ Central, the damage was extensive enough that several walls of the affected buildings had to be stabilized or removed before any thorough inspection or rebuilding efforts could commence.

The city administration has been proactive in their communication, updating residents and business owners via social media. "Businesses who have questions can call 520-432-6010. Please give us some time to respond to any questions because we may have to get the answers from Police, Fire, or Public Works. Please bear with us at this very busy time," the city posted on their Facebook page, as detailed by AZ Central. For now, the community of Bisbee takes it one day at a time in hopes of restoring the heart of their downtown to its former glory.
