A Border Patrol agent had to be rapidly flown to a hospital after a high-speed car chase turned violent near a checkpoint southwest of Tucson earlier this week. The pursuit began yesterday morning when Tohono O'odham Police Department officers attempted to stop a vehicle near the SR86 Checkpoint, as reported by ABC15. The situation quickly escalated, with one agent being struck by the suspect's vehicle.
The unidentified agent, injured during the chase, was then airlifted to Banner University Medical Center for treatment. According to officials, the agent's injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. ABC15 also highlighted that the FBI is actively involved and is continuing to thoroughly investigate the events that led up to the agent being hit. The exact motivations behind the incident are yet to be clearly outlined.
In the ensuing chaos, authorities managed to take two individuals into custody from the suspect vehicle following its crash at Ajo and Mission in Tucson. According to 12News, law enforcement officials concentrated their efforts on two vehicles, with special attention on a silver car near an auto center in the vicinity.
Witnesses shared off-camera that they observed one suspect fleeing from the auto center's direction, eventually being apprehended in a Food City parking lot. Another was caught near a Jack in the Box establishment, 12News reported. Meanwhile, the FBI has announced that the search to justly apprehend a third suspect is still active and ongoing, and they are calling for the public’s assistance. Tips can be called into 1-800-CALL-FBI, ensuring any valuable information can help bring the remaining suspect to account.
