Boston experiences unseasonably warm temperatures that are more akin to spring than the dead of winter. The mercury is slated to hit the lower 60s today. The National Weather Service's detailed forecast for Boston today predicts mostly sunny skies with a high nearing 62 degrees, alongside a southwest wind blowing at 7 to 9 mph.
Tonight, Bostonians should be on the lookout for a quick sprinkle, with a 50 percent chance of showers mainly occurring before 9 p.m. The forecast points to cloudy skies early on, which will clear up partially as temperatures dip to around 39 degrees. The chance to finally break out lighter jackets will continue into Sunday, with a partly sunny day and highs creeping up near the 49-degree mark.
"Increasing chances for an impactful coastal storm Monday night into Tuesday," explained the National Weather Service Boston/Norton MA in their area forecast discussion. The aftermath is surmised to be blustery and cold, although, the extent of the cold snap is yet to be firmly predicted, with "still a fair amount of uncertainty with the track and storm intensity" muddying the meteorological waters.
The warm spell setting in over Boston is not just a trifling increase in temperatures. The National Weather Service Boston took to Twitter stating, "Record highs possible today with temperatures warming into the upper 50s and lower 60s this afternoon, more typical of mid to late April than February!" These temperatures are "20-25 degrees warmer than normal,"
As the city basks briefly in these heightened temperatures, change looms with a mix of precipitation — including rain and the potential for snow — expected to steadily come down Monday night. Tuesday forecasts predict snow is likely, particularly before 2 p.m., accompanied by blustering northeast winds. The turbulent weather carries on into midweek, as the forecast indicates sunny but breezy conditions, with high temps hovering around a chilly 33 degrees.
