Tuesday's commute in Boston hit a snag when a motor vehicle plowed through a red light and collided with a city bus, authorities said. The accident, which occurred at the intersection of BHA and River Street, involved a 2021 Nissan whose 54-year-old operator ignored the traffic signal, as per a report by the MBTA Transit Police.
The crash, which happened just before 4 p.m. on Valentine's Day, left two people with non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials. Traffic was affected for a short period due to the collision, but it was nothing compared to the heartache of a ruined evening for the passengers involved. The driver of the Nissan was cited for the red light violation, reminding us all of the costly price of haste and inattention.
In the moments following the incident, the MBTA Transit Police posted on X, "TPD Offs respond to BHA/River Street for a #MBTA bus vs. MV accident. Details on the conditions of the injured parties were not immediately released, however, the Transit Police's notice served as a stark reminder to Boston's motorists: the rules of the road are more than mere suggestions, they are guardians of our collective safety. As the city moves forward, it becomes increasingly apparent that a momentary lapse can result in widespread consequence, disruption, not just to a single driver but to the communal thread upon which our daily lives are strung.
