Bostonians experienced a mercurial weather pattern on Wednesday characterized by persistent showers and muscular winds, and they're now bracing for a drastic dip in temperature. Today's forecast called for "showers likely, mainly before 9 am" with a possibility of patchy fog, as reported by the National Weather Service, in what was a breezy day with south southwest winds pushing 18 to 23 mph, gusting up to 46 mph.
As evening descends holding tight to the city with a low around 27, gusts are expected to reach a howling 48 mph. After the rain stops before 1 am, residents might be greeted with patchy fog that is expected to appear between the hours of 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. The blustery conditions are set to continue through Thursday with sunny skies but still with west winds between 18 and 24 mph, gusts potentially clipping at 39 mph, as per the National Weather Service.
In central Massachusetts, Tuesday had seen temperatures climb to record highs, but it was followed by Wednesday's stormy conditions, including heavy rain, before a cold surge will slash Thursday's highs to the mid-30s. "Rain, strong winds Wednesday followed by big temperature drop," articulated an update by NBC Boston, forecasting a tumultuous weather day with the potential for a wintry mix on early Thursday.
Concerns rise, with the wind being a prominent force, as gusts could peak at up to 55 mph inland. However, the coastal areas are bracing for an even wilder ride with winds anticipated to swagger up to 65 mph. Such potent winds carry the threat of localized power outages, especially "along the South Shore, Cape Cod and the Islands," NBC Boston warns. While the tempestuous weather is expected to taper off by Thursday morning, the wind will likely not relent, challenging Bostonians with its persistent bluster.
Looking ahead through the weekend, the city will see a slight warming trend; however, uncertainties linger as "there's a 40 percent chance of rain after noon" on Saturday, followed by possible rainfall into Sunday and Monday. Bostonians should keep their umbrellas at arm's reach, as intermitting rain chances continue to skirt the area with mostly cloudy conditions prevailing, signaling a week where the only constant is the fickleness of the skies.
