A Boston man has been nabbed by the local Fugitive Task Force in connection with a rental scam that duped multiple people out of their hard-earned cash. Bruno Vieira Ferreira, 23, caught the long arm of the law at about 4:55 P.M. yesterday on Exeter St., thanks to some sharp detective work by the Boston Police.
The scheme was simple yet cunning; Ferreira posted ads on Facebook Marketplace to quickly find people looking for a room to rent. According to the Boston Police, he would collect over $1200 from his victims by falsely promising them a room he never had the right to lease. It wasn't until these hopeful renters were left with neither a room nor a response that the deceit became apparent.
Despite previous eviction notices, Ferreira had boldly continued to advertise the phantom room. His latest victim was even given a key before communication was mysteriously cut off. But the authorities were onto him. They were able to gather enough evidence to get a warrant for his arrest, and it didn't take long for the Fugitive Task Force to act and bring Ferreira to justice.
Ferreira now faces charges for his actions, specifically Larceny Over $1200 By False Pretense, and is set to appear in Dorchester District Court. As of the arrest, the Boston Police have underscored the importance of remaining vigilant when engaging in transactions on platforms like Facebook Marketplace.
