Detectives from District D-4 cuffed David Joseph Laffey, 61, of Massachusetts, in connection to a string of armed heists terrorizing Back Bay and Fenway neighborhoods. Nabbed Thursday, the 61-year-old culprit faces the music for two counts of armed robbery, with a side of drug possession charges thrown in, the Boston Police Department reported.
Arresting officers, in the area of Island Street and Melnea Cass Blvd found Laffey with both Class B and Class A drugs. Sources close to the investigation confirmed the suspect is linked to two recent armed robberies: one outside 470 Commonwealth Avenue Wednesday evening, and the other on 324 Newbury Street the following night.
The brazen stick-ups, unfolding as the city's streets brimmed with the early-evening bustle, shook local residents. The first occurred around 5:00 PM near the bustle of Commonwealth Avenue, and just over 24 hours later, the thief struck again, this time on Newbury Street at 9:15 PM, as reported by the Boston Police Department.
