South Boston's streets saw action Tuesday night as police clamped down on a suspected drug trafficker caught with a stash of fentanyl. Jorge Santiago Collazo, 31, of Boston was nabbed by District C-6's Anti-Crime Unit, which was patrolling the Southampton Street area to address local concerns.
According to the Boston Police Department's report, the arrest took place near 895 Massachusetts Avenue, where a "No Trespassing or loitering" sign stands clearly posted. When officers approached a gathered group, attempts to disperse ensued, and that's when they spotted the suspicious black bag laying abandoned, dropped by someone trying to walk away undetected.
Inside the bag, police unearthed approximately twelve individually wrapped plastic bags, each brimming with brown powder later identified as fentanyl, weighing in at 13 grams. Collazo quickly found himself in handcuffs and now faces serious charges that include trafficking of class A drugs and trespassing.
The suspect is dued to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court, bringing a shred of justice to a community shadowed by the opioid crisis. Collazo's arrest is only a recent chapter in the ongoing battle against drugs that plague our city streets, with fentanyl often at the eye of the storm,
