In the heart of Downtown Crossing, Boston police cracked down hard on a narcotics operation, leading to a trio of arrests yesterday afternoon. According to the official Boston Police Department website, officers from the A-1 (Downtown) Drug Control Unit cuffed three individuals – Keith Curtis, 38, of Athol; Katherine Isaacs, 33, of Weymouth; and Michael Groden, 44, of Needham – who now face a slew of serious charges.
Witnessed during an undercover investigation, officers observed what appeared to be a drug deal in progress involving Curtis, Isaacs, and Groden. Upon detaining them, the police confiscated a hefty sum of drugs – 172 grams of heroin, 48 grams of crack cocaine, and 9 suboxone films. In a black fanny bag that Curtis sported, a SCCY 9MM semi-automatic handgun loaded with 8 rounds was found, along with $931 in cash, seemingly gleaned from illicit transactions.
All three suspects were quickly whisked away to Boston Municipal Court, where they will face the consequences of their alleged transgressions. The charges are stiff: Curtis is looking down the barrel of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, trafficking class A and B substances, distribution of a class A substance, and conspiracy to violate drug laws. His cohorts, Isaacs and Groden, aren't faring much better, booked for trafficking and distribution-related crimes themselves.
Groden, charged with trafficking class A and possession of a class B substance, was the oldest of the trio ensnared in the sting. Isaacs, meanwhile, faces trafficking class A and B substances, distribution of a class A substance, and conspiracy to violate drug laws. They are all set to explain themselves before the judicial system, their futures hinging on the balance of the law's heavy gavel.
