A tragic scene unfolded this past weekend in Houston as an 11-year-old boy was struck and killed in a car accident, the Houston Police Department reports. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Saturday, when the child was attempting to cross 5700 North Shepherd Drive.
Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer C. Sartor from the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division have been to actively investigate the circumstances that led to the heartbreaking outcome. A gray Dodge Charger, heading southbound, collided with the young pedestrian near the intersection of Tidwell Road. According to the City of Houston News, initial reports suggest the victim was not in the crosswalk at the time he was struck.
Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department responded swiftly but declared the boy dead at the scene. The identity of the boy is still under verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, with formal identification pending. The driver of the Dodge Charger cooperated with authorities, remained after the crash, and has been determined to not be impaired. Following questioning, the driver was released.
