A woman who allegedly drove more than 50 miles per hour over the speed limit while under the influence before a fatal collision in 2020 has been charged, authorities say. Local 10 News reports, 28-year-old Kimyah Lia Henderson now faces vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter charges for the incident that occurred in Broward County.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) arrest warrant, Henderson, who was 25 at the time of the crash, had a blood alcohol content of 0.16%, twice the legal limit, on June 22, 2020. The arrest occurred this Monday, with Henderson booked into BSO's Paul Rein Detention Facility. Per documentation, the Plantation resident's 2005 Toyota Camry was traveling at 87 mph in a 35 mph zone seconds before hitting a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, and slowed to 67 mph just before the impact that killed the other vehicle's passenger.

Details from a separate publication, Discover Insight Link, specified the accident happened around 2:45 a.m. in the Roosevelt Gardens neighborhood of central Broward County, but the victim's identity was not disclosed in the warrant. Henderson sustained injuries in the crash as well and the victim was later pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center.

Henderson's arrest comes after years of investigation into the crash and, following her arrest stay at the detention center, her bond was set at $100,000, according to BSO jail records. The case brings to light the devastating consequences of driving under the influence, and the long arm of the law that, eventually reaches out to administer justice even years after the tragic events unfold.
