Buc-ee's Plans Massive Travel Center in San Marcos with Potential City Incentive PackageSource: Larry D. Moore, CC BY 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Heads up, San Marcos—Buc-ee's is cruising into town with plans for a behemoth of a travel center. The mega-convenience store, which sports an almost cult-like following, is poised to pull up on a 22-acre space on I-35, south of Yarrington Road. The proposal includes 120 fueling positions and the potential to charge up between 100 and 175 electric vehicles, according to KXAN.

Not only is Buc-ee's betting big with a 74,000-square-foot layout, but the San Marcos City Council is also sweetening the pot. They're considering offering a 15-year, 50% sales tax rebate to the Lake Jackson-based juggernaut, eyeing growth and job creation as major wins for the local economy. Bringing in at least a $50 million investment and creating 175 full-time jobs with decent wages is a requirement that Buc-ee's has to meet to enjoy these financial perks, as per  Austin Business Journal.

But it's not just about selling brisket sandwiches and beaver nuggets; Buc-ee's must adhere to a few community commitments to seal the deal. They're expected to sprinkle some generosity with a $100,000 donation to the city's community fund, and they have to make an effort to hire locals, says the KXAN report.
