A 50-year-old man was slapped with murder charges after a pair of kids were stabbed — one fatally — in a South Chicago Heights neighborhood, officials said. According to CBS News, the suspect, Oronde Hardy, is accused of first-degree murder and attempted murder. The brutal stabbing took place on a Monday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the community.
Responding to a distress call around 3:50 p.m. near 15th and Hanover streets, the police found two teens bleeding from stab wounds. While Hardy's motive is still up to be ranged at the courthouse, detectives determined he allegedly stabbed the boys after a "verbal altercation," ABC 7 Chicago reported.
The victims, identified as 13-year-old David Sanchez, who succumbed to his injuries at Comer Children's Hospital, and a 14-year-old boy recuperating at Stroger Hospital, have brought the community grief and questions. Hardy, apprehended following high-tech sleuthing using license plate reader technology, now faces the consequences of his alleged actions in court.
Chicago Heights police utilized license plate technology to deftly locate Hardy's vehicle and took him into custody the following day.
