Chicago is on high alert after a series of brazen armed robberies have left residents in the 16th, 17th, and 25th Districts shaken and concerned for their safety. According to a community alert issued by local law enforcement, these incidents involved assailants approaching pedestrians, threatening them with a hard metal object, and forcefully taking their valuables before making a getaway in a dark-colored sedan.
Details of the crimes, which took place between February 18 and February 19, have emerged showing a disturbing pattern. The robbers, clad in dark attire and with their faces hidden, have struck five different times in mere hours. Addresses hit by this crime wave include the 3200 block of W. Addison, the 4300 and 4100 blocks of N. Linder and N. Troy, respectively, and the 6000 block of N. Elston, among other locations. Victims were targeted late at night and in the afternoon, demonstrating the thieves' brazen disregard for time of day, and law.
Authorities are on the lookout for 2-3 male suspects driving what is believed to be a dark gray Kia or Hyundai. In light of these attacks, the police are urging the public to exercise vigilance.
