A string of armed robberies by a group of young men has put residents of Chicago's 012th and 014th districts on high alert. According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, victims were accosted after a dark SUV approached them, with assailants brandishing handguns equipped with extended magazines to forcefully demand cellphones, passcodes, and other valuables.

The alert made public via the CPD's website, listed the incidents as having occurred on the evening of February 4, with the first robbery taking place at around 9:30 p.m. on the 2900 block of North Western, shortly followed by another on West 18th Street at 9:55 p.m., the 200 block of North Peoria at 11:25 p.m., and finally on the 2000 block of West Adams, at 11:32 p.m.

The suspects have been described as five to six African American males, approximately 15 to 16 years old, outfitted in all black and ski masks. After the confrontations, the offenders fled in a dark SUV. In an effort to prevent further incidents, the CPD has cautioned citizens to stay vigilant, avoid sitting in parked vehicles for prolonged periods, and encourage walking in groups, favoring well-lit streets.

The police have also suggested that community members report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately. Additionally, they emphasize the importance of establishing a strong rapport with neighbors, as a collective awareness can serve as a vanguard against crime. The CPD has urged those with any information about the offenses, or suspicious autos and persons to call 911 immediately.
