Get ready to make a splash this Valentine's Day at the local Community Center, where members and participants of the "Passport to Fun" program can enjoy the "Valentine's Splash" event for free. The watery festivities, open to swimmers of all ages, are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 9, from 5 to 7:50 p.m., featuring swimming, water volleyball, and Valentine surprises from the lifeguards. With family-friendly activities to warm hearts despite the chilly weather, this seasonal pool party aims to quickly become a neighborhood favorite.
For those looking to shake things up, there's no better way to celebrate the Lunar New Year than to dance it in. The Community Center invites families with kids aged six and older to join an energized hour of Lunar New Year Zumba on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. to noon, for a cost of just $5. The session promises to not only get participants moving but also to warmly welcome a year marked by health, triumphs, and joy. Fitness enthusiasts are encouraged to sign up and dance themselves into the new year with style and sweat.
Saturday continues to bring a unique opportunity to dive into the realm of relaxation with a Sound Bath session at the City Center, from 2 to 3 p.m. For $10, those 12 years and older can immerse themselves in a meditative experience where "sound waves" are promised to restore calm and provide peace to both the body and the mind. In today's constant grind, a moment to pause and rejuvenate might just be the much-needed antidote to the clamor of daily commitments.
Outdoor adventurers are in for a treat with the inventive combination of snow and yoga—dubbed "Snowga." For a refreshing hour on Sunday, Feb. 25, from noon to 1 p.m., yoga enthusiasts aged eight and up can experience the serenity and challenge of performing yoga poses outdoors in the Minnesota winter air, all for $5. The activity merges the physical benefits of yoga with the invigorating embrace of nature, to create a unique experience that is as rewarding as it is chilling.
The fun doesn't end there; young swimmers will have the chance to "Swim for Gold" on Saturday, March 2. With two swim sessions, 9–10:15 a.m. and 10:30–11:45 a.m., kids from one to seven years old can hunt for rubber duckies hiding gold coins in the Rec Pool. A $15 entrance fee offers not only a treasure hunt but also the opportunity to trade found coins for toys and other lucky charms. Traditional Tot Time amenities, like play features and toys, will be available to ensure a morning packed with excitement.
Adrenaline junkies can look forward to Canoe Battleship®, scheduled for Friday, March 15, between 7–9 p.m. This adult-oriented event (18+) allows teams of three to partake in a high-stakes, wet, and wild interpretation of the classic board game for $30 per team. Participants will need to strategically navigate their canoes, fill opponents' boats with water, and outmaneuver their way to victory in a thrilling battle on the waves.
Whether residents are looking to celebrate love with a splash, dance into a new year, or seek thrills on the water, this month's Community Center offerings have a slice of fun for everyone. Those interested can learn more and sign up for all of these activities—because this winter, the Community Center is the hotspot for cold-weather enjoyment and togetherness.
