The Texas Department of Transportation has put the word out that portions of the US 75 at Ridgeview Drive will shut down nightly for bridge beam installation that's part of a larger, ongoing bridge replacement project. Lane reductions and full roadway closures are on the menu through Feb. 23, so plan for delays or avoid the area if you can, according to the City of Allen.
According to the official TxDOT announcement, southbound traffic on US 75 will thin out to a single lane near Ridgeview Dr. starting at 9 p.m. this Friday, with the squeeze lasting until the early hours of Saturday. The same fate awaits drivers on the off-ramps from both eastbound SH 121/Sam Rayburn Highway/Spur 399 and westbound SH 5/Spur 399, these ramps will be shut down completely from Friday night through early Saturday, and then again from Saturday night to early Sunday.
But the trouble doesn't end there. All southbound lanes of US 75 at Ridgeview Dr. are slated for closure from 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, all the way until 5 a.m. Sunday, with detours rerouting traffic to the adjacent frontage roads. The northbound lanes get their turn on Sunday night when they'll also be entirely blocked off until the early hours of Monday. It's the weekend warriors and night owls who will bear the brunt of this construction chaos — and they better budget some extra travel time or pencil in those detours.
It's all part of a grand $45.9 million endeavor to replace the aging bridge, a project awarded to Indus Construction to wrap up by summer 2024. As of now, they're on schedule, but for motorists, it means navigating a labyrinth of lane closures for just a little longer.
