In a routine traffic stop that escalated into a drug and weapons bust, Cook County Sheriff's Police pulled over a vehicle in Dixmoor for expired tags, the sheriff's department reported. This mundane start soon led to the discovery of far more illicit activities.
According to authorities, as deputies approached the stopped vehicle, they encountered a distinct stench of burned cannabis emanating from inside. The search that followed unearthed a loaded firearm and substances suspected to be narcotics. The department disclosed these details in an announcement on its official Facebook page.
Further complicating the matter for the individual behind the wheel, the driver was found to be without a valid firearm owner’s identification card, nor did they possess a concealed carry license—prerequisites for legally carrying a firearm in Illinois.
The culmination of these findings—a vehicle registration issue, possession of a firearm, and narcotics—pointed law enforcement toward felony charges.
