The Daly City Police Department has released a Crime Alert Bulletin detailing a spree of robberies, burglaries, and vehicle thefts that have recently hit the area. According to the report, the week of January 22-28 saw a string of criminal activities, including one reported robbery, multiple burglary incidents at both residential and commercial properties, and a handful of vehicle burglaries and thefts.
One victim, while standing on a corner in the early hours of the morning, was intimidated into handing over $200 to a suspect who approached asking for money. Residents and businesses alike have found themselves victims, with one startling incident involving an elderly suspect entering an unlocked home and the local Planet Fitness suffering repeated locker break-ins. It seems the burglars are determined to even pry open doors to offices in commercial properties, showing a brazen disregard for the sanctity of both personal and business spaces.
In the realm of vehicle crimes, the thefts have been both numerous and varied, from an unlocked 2017 Chevrolet Colorado being relieved of a nuclear density gauge to the shattering of windows to snatch tools and electronics. The police bulletin ominously tallied eight stolen vehicles in the span of merely a week. While five of these vehicles have been recovered, the fast turnaround does little to comfort those repeatedly victimized. These accounts are a stark reflection of a darker side of daily life, one where possessions are snatched up almost as quickly as they are missed.
Alongside the thefts, the Daly City Police Department's bulletin detailed sobering statistics on domestic disturbances, psychiatric holds, and public intoxication, painting a troubled picture of the community. The sheer volume of these incidents casts a shadow, with 154 cases taken in total over the week, signaling an urgency for community and police collaboration to stem the tide of this criminal onslaught.
