A Detroit man was arrested after being accused of committing a series of lewd acts in a Dearborn Target store and its parking lot. Steven Simmers, 31, was arrested after a witness reported seeing him engaging in indecent exposure in a white Jeep parked at the Ford Road shopping hub. Simmers now faces charges that include child sexually abusive material, using a computer to commit a crime, and aggravated indecent exposure, in addition to basic indecent exposure charges, as reported by CBS Detroit.
The incident that led to Simmons' arrest occurred on February 11, when cops stopped his vehicle as it was leaving the parking lot of the Target, according to a statement obtained by CBS Detroit; subsequent investigation revealed footage on Simmons' phone that showed him following women through the store aisles and performing lewd acts, one video dated December 3, 2023, appeared to show him "ejaculating on unidentified female victim's coats," police detailed. His actions in these videos are said to include not only self-gratification but also unsuspecting women, some of whom had young children with them one witness who came forward mentioned turning around to catch him in the act but escaped before he finished.
Due to the severity of the allegations, Simmons was slapped with a $100,000 cash bond and, if released, will be required to wear a GPS tether, as FOX 2 Detroit reported. The judge presiding over the case scheduled a probable cause conference for February 27. Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin expressed relief at the swift capture of the suspect due to the vigilance of citizens and urged the public to remain observant; anyone with potential information or who may be a victim of Simmons' is encouraged to contact the local authorities.
In the meantime, Simmons' attorney, Maurice Davis, spoke to The Detroit News, where he reminded the public that these allegations remain unproven in court and that his client "has his rights and is innocent until proven guilty."
