Detroit residents can brace for a smorgasbord of weather conditions heading their way this week, as forecasters expect everything from sunny skies to rain and snow showers. According to the National Weather Service, today revels in partly sunny weather with temps peaking at a cool 37 degrees, coupled with northwest winds blowing at 8 to 13 mph and gusts possibly hitting 20 mph.
As nighttime descends this evening, the mercury will dip to around 22 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Northwest winds will slow to a quiet 6 to 10 mph. Wednesday should bring full sunshine and a high of 34 but with calmer northwest winds at 5 to 8 mph, shifting west southwest in the afternoon.
Temperatures on Thursday are expected to hover around 42 degrees with a mix on the cards—rain and snow showers are forecast before the morning rush, transitioning to rain showers by midday and the potential return to an icy mix come late afternoon. Motorists should take heed as the possibility of new snow accumulation could reach an inch. The winds are also set to pick up, causing quite the ruckus, with southeast winds at 10 to 15 mph changing to the west-northwest and cranking up to 17 to 22 mph, along with gusts that could howl up to 33 mph.
Thursday evening could still see some scattered snow showers before 7 pm, but then the skies will clear to partly cloudy with lows teetering at 27. The chill will persist on Friday with increasing clouds and a high near 34, and the chance for snow showers once again rearing its head before we hit 1 am on Saturday.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Detroiters will confront some sunny snippets with partly sunny settings on Saturday and highs tipping to about 28 degrees. The night maintains mostly cloudy conditions, with lows stooping to around 21. Sunday offers a breather in the form of mostly sunny skies and a more acceptable high of 37 degrees, although it'll be breezy.
The breezy theme continues into Sunday night with partly cloudy envelopes and lows of 26 degrees. And for those looking ahead to Washington's Birthday, wrap up warm for mostly sunny skies and a high near 4 degrees.
