The legal predicament of rapper Kodak Black, legally known as Bill Kapri, took a turn as a drug possession charge against him was dismissed in Broward County, the Sun Sentinel reported. Kapri was previously arrested after being found unconscious in his vehicle with white powder on his face, initially suspected to be cocaine, but tests later proved it to be a prescribed medication, oxycodone. Despite this victory, the music artist still faces a tampering with evidence charge and remains in a federal detention center, where he has been held since the arrest led to a revocation of his bond from a prior case.

The dismissal by Broward County Circuit Judge Barbara Duffy followed an inability by prosecutors to counter the evidence that the rapper obtained a legitimate prescription for oxycodone filled in July 2022. Kapri's attorney, Bradford Cohen, hopes this latest development will aid in also getting the tampering charge dismissed and lead to his client's release. According to Cohen, “Like many people across the country, he became dependent on those prescribed pills,” a statement he made in an interview with the Miami New Times, as per Hoodline. Meanwhile, Plantation police had to eventually back down from their initial assumption after lab results.

The rapper, renowned for hits like "Super Gremlin," has not only been battling legal issues but also his addiction to opioids as per his lawyer's statements. In 2021, former President Donald Trump commuted a 3-year federal prison sentence Kapri was serving for falsifying documents used to purchase weapons. Despite his legal challenges, Kapri made headlines with his altruistic efforts, such as covering rent for 28 families in West Palm Beach facing eviction.

Kapri's struggles with compliance, including a missed drug test on February 3 and a subsequent positive test for fentanyl on February 8, continue to snare him in legal entanglements. He issued an apology to his supporters, saying, "It must be tough being a friend or a fan of mine. I wanna say I apologize to everybody who represents me, as a friend, fan, brother, sister, associate, business partner," in a live video
