Tensions rose in East Point last Friday when a bomb threat prompted the closure of a major thoroughfare. The threat targeted a local plasma donation center. Cleveland Avenue, a main drag near Blount Street, was rendered impassable for hours as law enforcement responded with full force to the anonymous tip, according to WSBTV.
A staffer at the CSL Plasma Center received a call claiming a bomb was planted in the facility and set to explode within five minutes. Positioned near the bustling Chick-fil-A on Cleveland Avenue, businesses and pedestrians found themselves snagged in the unfolding drama. The East Point Police Department sprang into action, probing the veracity of the threat, a process narrated by reports from FOX 5 Atlanta.
Dozens of officers swarmed the area, Channel 2 Action News crews captured the meticulous scouring of the building. For the countless individuals disrupted by the closure, relief came when authorities issued an all-clear, confirming no bombs or hazardous devices were detected inside the plasma center.
The street has been reopened. At the moment, East Point police have not reported if any charges will be filed against the anonymous caller, the investigation continues.
