An elderly man's life was tragically cut short yesterday morning following a pedestrian-vehicle collision in Hayward, according to official reports. The incident occurred at the intersection of Hesperian Blvd and Bartlett Ave at around 7:46 a.m. when a 91-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.
Hayward Police were promptly on scene and discovered both the pedestrian and the driver still at the location. Despite efforts to save his life, the 91-year-old victim, whose name has yet to be released, was transported to a nearby hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver, a 61-year-old male, reportedly remained cooperative with authorities and appeared to have escaped the accident unscathed. It is not believed drugs or alcohol were to immediately factor in the cause of this fatal event.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld until family members are notified and the Alameda County Coroner’s Office completes formal identification processes. The driver's identity has not been made public at this time.
This marks the second vehicular fatality in Hayward this year.
