An Ebony Alert covering Alameda and Contra Costa counties is active for 16-year-old K-Miracle Anderson, who was reported missing on October 8. The California Highway Patrol activated the alert on behalf of the Emeryville Police Department, asking anyone who spots Anderson to call 911 immediately.
A social media post from CHP - Alerts lists Anderson's last-seen location as the intersection of Allston Way and Milvia Street in Berkeley.
Anderson is described as 5 feet 1 inch tall and 110 pounds, with black hair and hazel eyes. The alert included a clothing description and said she may be in Oakley or Brentwood.
How California's Ebony Alert System Works
The Ebony Alert is one of six alert types recognized under California's statewide missing persons framework, alongside the AMBER, Blue, Silver, Feather and Endangered Missing Advisory alerts, according to the California Highway Patrol. The program was created through Senate Bill 673, became law in 2024, and was later amended by Assembly Bill 173 under California Government Code Section 8594.14, per the CHP's own program page. Under that law, the California Highway Patrol activates an Ebony Alert when requested by a local law enforcement agency, as outlined by California Legislative Information.
The system exists specifically to coordinate alerts for Black youth, including young women and girls, who go missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances, are considered at risk, have a developmental or cognitive disability, or are believed to have been abducted, per the bill text maintained by California Legislative Information. The CHP describes the program as a tool for law enforcement investigating the suspicious or unexplainable disappearance of a Black woman or person, meant to push information to the public quickly enough to aid in a safe recovery.
Other Recent Ebony Alerts in Northern California
Anderson's case follows a string of Ebony Alerts issued elsewhere in Northern California in recent weeks. The CHP issued an alert on behalf of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office for 16-year-old Dela Mayberry, who was reportedly last seen near Del Campo High School in Fair Oaks on Sept. 18, as reported by The Sacramento Bee. Mayberry was described as about 5-foot-1 and 110 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes — a build nearly identical to Anderson's.
Earlier in September, the same agency issued another Ebony Alert for 16-year-old Azaria Higginbotham, last seen around 4 p.m. on Sept. 4 in south Sacramento, according to KCRA. Higginbotham was described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 109 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Mayberry's case involved a teenage girl last seen near a school before her disappearance was escalated to a statewide alert.
No further details about the circumstances surrounding Anderson's disappearance have been released. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to call 911.
