
A father and his two sons were shot in a Northeast Salem neighborhood early Saturday morning, sparking an ongoing investigation by local authorities. The incident, which occurred near the vicinity of Lansing Avenue Northeast and Hammel Street Northeast, was reported just before 2:30 a.m., according to KPTV.
The Salem Police Department rushed to the scene to quickly find three victims: a 42-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, and a 15-year-old boy. They were discovered outside, standing near the intersection close to Washington Elementary School. Officials at the scene confirmed that two of the individuals were promptly taken to nearby Salem Health for treatment with injuries that were fortunately deemed non-life-threatening. "Multiple people" had been reported to have gunshot wounds in the initial 911 call, a fact shared by the responding officers.
No arrests have been made so far, and as of Monday morning, there have been no updates on the condition of the victims. The police have kept details under wraps, with the Violent Crimes Unit actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Angela Hedrick, the police public information officer, underscored the ongoing nature of the case, saying, "They are still on the scene, actively working this case," in a statement obtained by Salem Reporter.
The neighborhood, still reeling from the early morning violence, is seeking answers while police comb through evidence and witness accounts to piece together the events that led to the trio getting injured. As the Salem PD continues to investigate, the community is left to wait, hoping for a resolution and reassurance that their streets are safe to freely walk once more.
