The Federal Bureau of Investigation has just beefed up its Office of Congressional Affairs, with the appointment of Patrick N. Findlay as its new assistant director. FBI Director Christopher Wray is confident that Findlay's extensive legal and government service experience will play a critical role in interfacing with Congress, the Bureau announced yesterday.
This legal eagle kicked off his FBI career in 2012 and swiftly moved up the ranks as associate general counsel before joining the Department of Justice's National Security Division as general counsel, where he maintained a sharp focus on Congressional matters. The seasoned pro hasn’t been a stranger to the U.S. Department of Labor either, having advised them as a senior counselor, or to the Investor Protection Bureau of the New York Attorney General's Office, where he once served as assistant attorney general.
Before making his mark in the corridors of justice enforcement, Findlay litigated at a law firm in New York. His journey into the political arena commenced with a gig as investigative counsel to the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor way back in 2007. But let's not forget where it all began - his humble starts as a clerk for the judiciary in Texas and his academic pursuits which led him to proudly wield a law degree from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
With cyber threats and homeland security taking top slots on the priority list, Findlay's transition from his recent role as the executive director of the Office of Congressional Workplace Rights to now guiding the FBI's congressional communication strategy seems like a chess move designed for these turbulent times. His new position will undoubtedly capitalize on his background of working closely with law enforcement and justice officials, as well as his knack for navigating the complex waters of Capitol Hill.
