Flames tore through a pair of unoccupied homes on the Southwest Side of San Antonio late Tuesday night, leaving in its wake destruction and a slew of unanswered questions. According to KENS 5, firefighters scrambled to the 200 block of Briggs Avenue near Somerset Road at approximately 10:48 p.m., but were hindered by low water pressure from the nearby hydrants, which served as a bottleneck in their battle against the inferno.
One structure was engulfed by the time the crews, hampered by the deficient hydrants, managed to arrive at the scene and saw the second home beginning to be licked by flames. As reported by FOX San Antonio, eventually, the fire was extinguished, but the aftermath left one home in ruins and another with severe damage.
While both dwellings were vacant at the time of the pyrotechnic disaster, neighbors have reported seeing homeless individuals taking refuge within the structures. The financial toll of the incident was noted by KENS 5, with the second home suffering an estimated $20,000 in damages to its back corner. As the smoke clears, there has been no official determination of the cause of the fire, with both incidents remaining the subject of ongoing investigations.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, ensuring the incident remained a tragedy of property and not life.
