A brazen heist at the Nissan of Pittsfield Auto Dealership has led to the arrest of a Florida man, Pittsfield Police reported. The break-in occurred on the evening of February 4, when a safe was lifted by a lone suspect that subsequently fled on foot, sparking an intensive police probe.
Officers from the Pittsfield Police Department Patrol Division were first on the scene, after the suspect had already disappeared into the night. They worked to collect evidence and interview a witness, hastily painting a picture of the crime. According to the Facebook page of Pittsfield Police Department, an "intense day long investigation" by members of the Detective Bureau, Narcotics Unit, and Anti-Crime Unit ensued, resulting in quick identification of a suspect.
Joseph Demary, 48, of St. Petersburg, Florida, was connected to the crime. Law enforcement officials, armed with a search warrant obtained on February 5, searched the suspect's premises. The officers were not deterred by the setting sun while they executed the search warrant the same evening, uncovering evidence linked to the dealership's break-in.
Demary was promptly arrested and booked at the Pittsfield Police Department on charges of Breaking & Entering in the Nighttime for a Felony and Larceny from a Building. He was also nabbed on an outstanding warrant, carrying the scent of guilt like an albatross around his neck. Pittsfield Police stated that Demary faced his arraignment in Pittsfield District Court on the following day, February 6.
The dealership, situated on West Housatonic Street, has remained tight-lipped on the details of the stolen safe and the contents within. Local residents and businesses remain on alert as the investigation continues, with the Pittsfield Police Department urging anyone with additional information to step forward.
