Timothy Bernard McKyer, a former NFL star, was arrested in Florida on Sunday after he allegedly crashed into five parked cars in a Riviera Beach parking garage and then left the scene. As WFLA reports, McKyer, who is recognized for winning three Super Bowl championships and played for teams such as the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers, faced charges including five counts of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage exceeding $50, in addition to a traffic misdemeanor and an infraction for failing to report the incident.
According to Riviera Beach Police, the ex-cornerback allegedly caused the six-car pile-up in the Marina Grande parking garage at 2650 Lake Shore Drive and did not stay to deal with the aftermath, despite the law requiring it, McKyer was later released from custody on Monday morning after posting a $1,250 bond and is expected to have a case disposition on March 4, as WPTV News Channel 5 West Palm reported.
As the investigation continues, officers are currently trying to contact the owners of the vehicles that were hit during the incident, which caused property damage, the parked vehicles that were hit were not occupied during the incident and the authorities have called for anyone with information to step forward and assist in their inquiries.
The arrest and subsequent charges are adding a dissonant note to McKyer's storied career, having played from 1986 to 1997 and leaving an indelible mark on the field with his athletic prowess, the 60-year-old former athlete now finds himself entangled in legal troubles, highlighting a fall from grace that juxtaposes vividly against a legacy of professional sports triumphs.
