
Tragedy struck early this morning when a Fort Worth fire truck crashed while en route to an emergency, leaving one firefighter battling for his life and another in stable condition. The accident occurred near Village Creek and Wilbarger at 2:34 a.m., right by the Eugene McCray Community Center. According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, four firefighters were taken to the hospital after the incident.
The fire truck was responding to quickly put out a blaze at a single-family home on Pecos St. when the crash unfolded. After the crash, another fire engine was dispatched to the house fire from Fire Station 3. Fort Worth police are on the case, investigating the crash, which reportedly did not involve any other vehicles. The names of the afflicted firefighters are being withheld until family members can be duly informed.
Fort Worth Fire Chief Jim Davis acknowledged the weight of the moment, stating, “Our foremost priority is supporting the wellbeing of our firefighters and their families in this difficult moment,” and appreciated the community's solidarity. The city's Mayor Mattie Parker added her voice, saying, “Our firefighters are always there for our community, and right now, we need the community’s prayers for their recovery and healing,” highlighting the strong bond between the city's residents and its first responders, as per the Fort Worth Fire Department.
