Fort Worth's landscape is set for a makeover, thanks to the diligent folks at Keep Fort Worth Beautiful (KFWB). Showing off its community spirit, the organization is spearheading the 39th Annual Cowtown Great American Cleanup, scheduled to hit the streets on Saturday, March 23. Last year's legion of volunteers managed to haul away a staggering 170,000 pounds of trash from the city's nooks and crannies, according to the City of Fort Worth.
For those itching to do their bit, registration kicked off on Thursday, Feb. 1, so it's time to claim your spot. Not only will KFWB hook up volunteers with all the cleanup essentials – we're talking trash bags and gloves here –, but the first 4,500 people to sign up will also boast a free T-shirt. Individuals and groups can register at pre-selected cleanup hubs or pick a messy spot to tidy on their own.
And because no good deed goes unrewarded, KFWB is throwing a shindig dubbed the Earth Party to celebrate all the hard work. After the morning's clean sweep, volunteers can kick back with some food and drinks, enjoy live music and entertainment, and even partake in animal adoptions. And for those with a creative edge, the annual Trashion Fashion Show offers a runway for fashion crafted from at least 50% trash or recyclable items, complete with prizes for standout ensembles.
It's not just individuals getting in on the action. Organizations with an environmental agenda can get their moment in the spotlight, by showcasing at the Earth Party Celebration. Those who want to exhibit can email KFWB for the chance to promote their eco-friendly initiatives, to a crowd of like-minded earth savers. Whether it's picking up litter or strutting sustainable couture, Fort Worth's community is gearing up for a day of eco-activism wrapped in Texas-sized fun.
