Georgetown's San Gabriel Park is set to be abuzz this Saturday, with cupid costumes and the sound of sneakers against the pavement for the 29th annual Cupid's Chase 5K and Fun Run. The city's Parks and Recreation department is expecting a healthy turnout as online registration will wrap up Wednesday night at 11:30 p.m. The chip-timed 5K will kick off at 9 a.m. on East Morrow Street, looping runners back to their starting line at the park's end, according to KXAN.
Little ones are also getting in on the love-filled action with their own Kids Fun Run, starting at 8:30 a.m., just half a hour before the main event. Families looking to truly embrace the spirit of the occasion are encouraged to come dressed in theme, with the city of Georgetown advocating for cupid costumes to really blast runners into the love-struck mood. They also welcome strollers and those with furry friends on non-retractable leashes, as reported by KXAN.
The cost to participate in this heart-pounding extravaganza isn’t steep, with a $30 fee for participants 11 and up, while the children 10 and under can join their race for $10. Those who registered early were promised an official Cupid's Chase T-shirt, making them easy to spot amongst the crowd of cherubic runners. And while the chance to snag one of those tees is now sprinting away, the opportunity for a trophy still stands. The city promises awards to top finishers — the overall male and female winners, masters, and top three in each age bracket, and they've thrown down the gauntlet to their own employees, with special honors to the fastest city workers, as detailed by the Austin American Statesman.
For those looking to pin their hopes on a swift sprint this Cupid’s Day, race results will be available after the fact at the event's dedicated webpage — cupid.georgetown.org.
