The streets of Gilbert, Arizona are witnessing a temporary yet stirring change as Perry Puma Drive takes on a new identity in honor of hometown NFL sensation, Brock Purdy. As Purdy gears up to lead the San Francisco 49ers in the upcoming Super Bowl, his alma mater Perry High School is showing its support by renaming the drive to Brock Purdy Way, a nod that will stand for the next month.
According to a report by AZFamily, Heather Patterson, the principal of Perry High School, spoke highly of Purdy's lasting impact on the community, "The connection and relationships that he formed here when he was a student are still very strong," she said. "And he’s just a great young man." Enthusiasm isn't just contained within the school limits; the whole town of Gilbert is buzzing with anticipation and pride.
The celebrations don't just stop at street names. A massive wave of 'Brock Nation' t-shirts, courtesy of Perry High School alumnus and local entrepreneur Kyle Narducci, has flooded the halls in white. These 3,200 shirts designed for the Perry community staff and students represent the confluence of local spirit and unity.
In a gesture that solidified the sense of communal pride, Narducci, owner of Heart and Hook Apparel, expressed his dedication to Purdy and his high school by donating the t-shirts in time for the school's Purdy Madness Spirit Week. "It's something that not a lot of schools get to experience... I mean, to have a graduate go to the Super Bowl and, hopefully win — yeah, we're praying that they win — is a special moment that is, I think, a once in a lifetime thing," Narducci told ABC10.
As for the Purdy family, the wave of support is deeply touching. Shawn Purdy, Brock's father, shared his gratitude with Sports360AZ, as obtained by AZFamily, "I say when this is over, I want to text Hey, Arizona thank you for supporting Brock," saying that the outpouring of encouragement "has been unbelievable."
The week leading to the Super Bowl has seen the high school's marquee in constant rotation cheering on their 'Brock Nation' hero. Even the front office is adorned with Purdy’s trophies – making it undeniably clear that the quarterback's journey to the NFL is a source of community pride and collective joy.
