Last December, new life was breathed into this inactive investigation, as police received video evidence of the assault. This led to the arrest of Kyler Renner, 19-year-old Gage Garrison, Jack Woods at 17, and an unnamed minor last month. According to court records noted by 12 News, the escalation began at an In-N-Out and moved to a nearby parking garage where the victims were questioned about their involvement in "'a commotion of some sort.'" It was here where the suspects, donned in black hats and in one case brass knuckles, attacked the victims.
Details on the involvement of the individuals detained are disquieting. Garrison is accused of kicking and punching the victim, while Woods allegedly pinned and struck the victim after he was thrown to the ground. Renner's court records are sealed, leaving his alleged role unclear. Moreover, during Renner's arrest, he was found to be in possession of narcotic drugs. The Gilbert Police Chief, Michael Soelberg, disclosed that the department has nine active teen violence cases, with a surge in arrests – 35 made, 22 just in January – signaling an intensified crackdown on youth violence in the area.
Over a year has passed since the incident, but the search for justice keeps rigorous pace. The Gilbert Police Department remains steadfast in gathering all pieces of this disturbing puzzle. The public's assistance is not just requested but essential – their eyes and ears extending the reach of the long arm of the law. As the case number 22-140033 is shared once more, the community is reminded that each tip, no matter how small, could be the crucial thread that unravels the knots of this dark tapestry of violence that's been woven into their streets.
