A tragic incident unfolded in Glendale as 30-year-old Josarina Woody was arrested for running over her girlfriend while under the influence of alcohol, with a child present in the vehicle at the time of the event, authorities reported. According to AZ's Family, the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when Woody was leaving a driveway and failed to see her girlfriend, who had fallen onto the road.
Witnesses described a neighbor's effort to intervene with shouts to Woody to cease her motion, but his attempt went unheeded as Woody's vehicle first struck the victim with its front tires, paused, and then distressingly proceeded to roll over the victim again with the rear tires before fleeing the scene, as stated by wsfa.com. The severity of the injuries sustained by Woody's girlfriend remains undisclosed.
Police later identified Woody in a parking lot near 51st Avenue and Bethany Home Road, where she was discovered inside the vehicle along with the young child. AZ's Family reported that officers conducted two breathalyzer tests revealing Woody's blood alcohol concentrations of 0.178 and 0.179, well above the legal limit. During a subsequent interrogation, Woody claimed she merely intended to leave the location and, when questioned about the collision, stated she was unaware anyone was in the road, assuming the impact was "the bump from the driveway".
Woody now faces several charges including extreme DUI and aggravated assault, and has been booked into the county jail.
