
Fire crews in Hamilton, Massachusetts, were called to the site of a burning excavator amid the dark, pre-dawn hours on Saturday, with flames consuming the machinery by the time they arrived. According to NBC Boston, firefighters rushed to the construction zone near Bridge Street shortly before the break of day, facing the blaze that took hold of the construction vehicle.
The incident, contained to the excavator alone, occurred on a wooded lot among several undergoing development; despite its intensity, the conflagration left its surroundings unscathed, the Hamilton Fire Department says the damage was lucky limited to the excavator itself, and no injuries have been reported. As reported by The Salem News, Fire Chief Raymond Brunet affirmed the fire's limited scope, "all the damage from the fire was limited to the excavator itself," a stroke of fortune given the potential for a greater calamity.
While the cause of the fiery spectacle remains under investigation, authorities have not yet pointed to arson; however, attentions are drawn by a reward sign clinging to the charred remains of the excavator, offering $5,000 for information leading to substantial clarity regarding the origins of the fire, as per NBC Boston.
