During a routine traffic stop on February 1, Harris County deputies have arrested Franklin Benard for unlawful possession of a weapon. The stop took place in the 4900 block of FM 1960 Road West, where deputies quickly discovered more than just a traffic violation, according to a Facebook post by Constable Mark Herman's Office.
Upon further investigation, Constable deputies found that Benard was carrying marijuana and a loaded firearm. To complicate matters further, Benard was on felony probation for assault at the time of his arrest.
This led to Benard's immediate arrest, and he was booked into the Harris County Jail. He faces charges for unlawful carrying of a weapon, per Constable Mark Herman's account. It's reported that Franklin Benard's bond was set at $5,000.00 out of County Court 12.
While the deputies were carrying out what appeared to be standard protocol, the findings have raised serious concerns about the circulation of firearms amongst those who are not legally permitted to bear them. Herman’s office has been actively reaching out to the community to assure them that the deputies are working tirelessly to quickly respond to such incidents in efforts to maintain public safety.
