A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody by Harris County authorities after an attempted vehicular heist went awry, resulting in a crash. This occurred in the area of Shady Bank Drive on February 2, officials say.
According to the Facebook page of Constable Mark Herman's Office, deputies responded to the call concerning a suspicious vehicle. Arriving, deputies found themselves in a foot chase as the two occupants, the unknown driver and the suspect, darted out of the still-moving car, which collided with another parked vehicle.
While the evasive driver remains at large, the young passenger, whose name has not been released due to his minor status, was apprehended after the establishment of a police perimeter. This is not the teen's first brush with law enforcement, as he is known to have multiple arrests related to evading and unauthorized vehicle use.
"The juvenile was arrested and booked into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center, charged with Evading Arrest. Investigation continues to identify the driver,” Constable Mark Herman stated. The incident adds to a growing concern regarding juvenile delinquency in the local community, where recidivism rates appear stubbornly high. Efforts by law enforcement to mitigate this pattern hinge on the swift apprehension of young offenders and interventions aiming at behavioral change.
