A member of a violent drug cartel has been slammed with a 30-month stint in federal prison, following her guilty plea in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy. Khristy Guzman, a 39-year-old Holyoke resident, will also face 24 months of supervised release after her time behind bars, as stated in a press release by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Guzman, as the documents reveal, was knee-deep in a sweeping drug trafficking operation that flooded the streets of Western Massachusetts with cocaine and crack cocaine. Her downfall came as part of an extensive inquiry that unveiled controlled purchases and intercepted communications linking her to Vincente Gonzalez, the operation's alleged ringleader. Urban neighborhoods, typically sanctuaries for families and children, became the backdrop for their nefarious trade.

The investigation into Guzman placed her at the helm of drug sales within Gonzalez's turf, specifically along Elm Street in Holyoke.

Justice's gears grind forward as Guzman takes the fall, the second in a succession of dominos to topple in this case. Preceding her was Miguel Burgos, who received a 60-month sentence last September. Still awaiting their fate are Brigham Ocasio-Ramos, who is expected to plea guilty later this month, and Vincente Gonzalez himself—his day in court set for a jury trial this coming May.

The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) aims to take apart high-level threats to the nation with an iron fist. The spirit of cooperation outshines the lurid tales of crime, with various agencies such as the FBI's Boston Division, Holyoke and Springfield Police Departments, Massachusetts State Police, and the Hampden District Attorney's Office banding together in this pursuit.

These charges remain allegations until proven in court.
