A Homestead man has been identified as the second victim in a crash that claimed the life of a Florida Highway Patrol trooper last week. Arsenio Mas, 55, tragically lost his life in the Feb. 2 collision on Interstate 95 in Port St. Lucie, which also resulted in the fatality of Trooper Zachary Fink, as reported by NBC6. The crash occurred when Fink was attempting to stop a driver for speeding and reckless driving, only for the felon to drive the wrong way on the interstate, causing the fatal incident.
Mas' family in Cuba, where he originated, communicated to NBC6 their grief over the loss. His daughter, Yeisel Más Dominguez, informed WPTV about the depth of the family's devastation. "This accident has ended my life sincerely," Dominguez said, a sentiment that underscores the profound impact such tragedies carry beyond immediate victims. Dominguez additionally highlighted that her father had emigrated to the United States for a better life and that she longed for one more opportunity to embrace him. She lamented, "I want to see him again to give him a big hug."
Dominguez, who resides in Cuba, doubts she will secure a visa in time to attend her father's funeral arrangements. The heartbreak speaks to a common narrative of separation within immigrant families, an experience often marked by significant emotional and physical distances. Mas, who died at the scene, leaves behind four children and his partner.
Meanwhile, the suspect, Michael Anthony Addison, 30, of Lauderhill, has been charged with 12 counts, including vehicular manslaughter and fleeing and eluding, according to details from the WPTV report. Fink, a three-year veteran of the FHP, was transported to a local hospital following the crash but succumbed to injuries. The tragedy has united communities in mourning, reflecting on the dangers law enforcement and everyday citizens like Mas face on the roads.
