Authorities said the incident occurred on Feb. 2 around 4 p.m., and the suspect fled the scene in a white cargo van. The dog, in a display of loyalty, ran after the van as the heartless driver sped away. Investigators are zeroing in on the owner of the van, believed to be associated with a local church in the vicinity where the dog was left for fend for itself, according to Houston Chronicle.
The Houston SPCA has taken the abandoned dog under its wing, ensuring it is safe and well-cared for. During its initial check-up, the dog was scanned for a microchip, but none was found. Thankfully, the dog appeared to be in good health despite its ordeal. Texas law does not look kindly on such cases of heartless animal abandonment, with penalties including a $10,000 fine and up to two years in prison.
