A grisly scene unfolded in Houston when police discovered the body of a woman next to her distraught 2-year-old son yesterday. The Houston Police Department received a distressing call around 8:30 a.m., prompting officers to respond to a home off Fir Ridge Court in Far Northeast Harris County. Despite attempts to contact the residents, the authorities left when they failed to receive an answer.
Later that day, the police received another call from a woman reporting a chilling confession. She claimed her father had phoned her, confessing to killing his girlfriend, and that he was en route to Louisiana. The police re-entered the residence at around 12:30 p.m., only to find the toddler locked in one of the secured rooms. Houston Police asst. chief Patricia Cantu told Fox San Antonio, "The officers didn't know what was going on. They heard a small whimper in one of the rooms," leading them to force entry and discover the child.
Paramedics deemed the child unharmed while the mother's body was found in the second bedroom. The grim circumstances pointed to her boyfriend, who was not the child's father, as the prime suspect. The man had given his daughter the impression that he was heading to a family member's address in Louisiana after committing the act.
The suspect was met by Port Allen Police upon arrival in Louisiana. In a harrowing turn of events, the man took his life with a firearm before officers could intervene. Assistant Chief Cantu explained the suspect exited his car and "shot himself," as reported by Yahoo News. The child has since been placed in the care of Child Protective Services and will eventually be reunited with family members.
