
A routine drive turned tragic last Friday, leading to a perplexing accident that left one man dead at 9300 Greensward Road in Houston. The incident, which occurred around 5:10 p.m., claimed the life of 30-year-old Omar Abu Dayyeh after he reportedly fell from a moving pickup truck, Houston police revealed.
The driver, a 38-year-old male behind the wheel of a red Chevrolet Silverado was headed westbound, when, according to police, his rear seat passenger Mr. Abu Dayyeh opened the door and subsequently fell out onto the road. The driver immediately halted the vehicle and rushed to Abu Dayyeh’s aid, the City of Houston reported. A bystander on the scene contacted emergency services.
First responders from the Houston Fire Department arrived swiftly but could not save Abu Dayyeh, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The specifics leading up to the moment Abu Dayyeh opened the truck door remain unclear and are central to the ongoing investigation by the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division.
Following the incident, the driver of the Silverado was found to be sober and was later released after questioning. Sergeant J. Wu and Officer D. Jones of the division are in charge of the inquiry, searching for any indicators as to why such a sudden and fatal decision was made by Abu Dayyeh. In a statement obtained by the City of Houston, authorities mentioned, "The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and was determined not to be impaired."
