Houston bakery Dessert Gallery opens its doors on The Woodlands Waterway, the Houston Chronicle reports. Thirty years after satisfying Houston's dessert cravings, bakery owner Sara Brook has decided to expand her shop in a cozy 1,150-square-foot space that showcases the same purple and turquoise flair characteristic of her original Upper Kirby store.
The new bakery spot, nestled at 25 Waterway Ave., features intimate indoor seating with room for a dozen patrons and an outdoor patio with eight additional seats; it stands where the former Nestle Toll House Cafe used to welcome dessert lovers, as revealed by CultureMap Houston. Brook, a beloved figure in the local sweets scene since the inception of her first dessert business 40 years ago, said "We are so excited to officially open The Woodlands location of Dessert Gallery,"
On top of traditional offerings like the Tres Leches cake and the signature "Brookies," the bakery is rolling out all-new golden "billionaire brownies" and fun, colorful Dessert Slabs featuring all sorts of extravagant flavors. Joseph Lopez, the Woodlands general manager expressed his delight saying, "Our goal is straightforward: make sharing our delicious desserts a part of daily life, creating sweet memories for everyone in The Woodlands," according to statements made to the Houston Chronicle.
Brook reflected on her 40-year journey and the timelessness of her desserts, noting on CultureMap’s “What’s Eric Eating” podcast that what resonates with customers are the classic, nostalgia-inducing flavors over gimmicky trends, saying“You want the thing that reminds you of what your grandma made for your birthday. Those are the things that inspire memories and good feelings.” in her trademark candid style. Whether it's for a midday treat or a late-night indulgence, residents can swing by the new dessert haven from Monday to Thursday between 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and they can keep indulging until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays or from noon to 10 p.m. on Sundays; nationwide delivery, for those out of strolling distance, is also an option.
