A tragic car crash on Edinger Avenue claimed the life of a 55-year-old man from Huntington Beach, California. The accident occurred on the evening of February 9, 2024, around 9:30 PM, when a Chevy Silverado reportedly struck a Toyota Prius.
The Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) arrived at the scene of the collision, which took place just east of Edwards Street, to discover the critically injured Prius driver, whose identity has not been released. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, as noted in a report released by the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Escaping on foot after the crash, the 24-year-old Silverado driver, also from Huntington Beach, was soon after apprehended by law enforcement officials. Following preliminary investigations, it seemed that while both vehicles were heading west on Edinger, in the same lane, the speedy Silverado rammed the Prius from behind, indicating that the truck was moving at an unsafe speed at the time of the collision.
Authorities have arrested the 24-year-old male driver and slapped him with charges that include suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. Continuing their work, the HBPD Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) has taken over the ongoing collision investigation. They encourage anyone with information about the incident to step forward and contact Traffic Investigator C. Houlston at (714) 536-5670, as is mentioned in the official police statement.
