
In a decisive crackdown, the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) has completed a targeted sting operation against retail theft at Bella Terra, leading to ten arrests. the operation took place on January 12 and 21, and spanned multiple businesses in the bustling shopping complex, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
The suspects, nabbed in the operation, ranged in age from 29 to 69 years old and hailed from various cities across Orange County. Those apprehended include Julie Davis, 44, Daniel Domingo, 35, David Dunne, 41, Ricky Guzman, 38, Lao Hoang, 69, Kraig Hurley, 33, Marquis Serna, 29, David Sponheim, 40, Jennifer Watson, 51, and Nicholas Young, 35, were all booked into HBPD jail on various criminal charges, including felonies. Along with the arrests, peace officers recovered property believed to be stolen.
HBPD emphasized the importance of collaboration with local retailers like Nordstrom Rack, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Costco Wholesale, among others, in curbing such crimes. The enforcement operations, as highlighted by the department's news release, were a coordinated effort involving HBPD's Special Investigations and General Investigation Units, tapping into the expertise of loss prevention experts and working hand-in-hand with the Orange County District Attorney's Organized Retail Theft Taskforce, as per Huntington Beach Police Department.
The department has reasserted its commitment to maintaining public safety and security through such proactive measures, led by the HBPD Detectives. The array of businesses in the Bella Terra area, played a crucial role, supplying invaluable intelligence that aided law enforcement efforts. This cooperation is seen as essential for cultivating an environment less susceptible to retail theft, which is an ongoing concern nationally.
