Following standard protocol for an in-custody death, the Sheriff’s Office is conducting a collaborative probe with the District Attorney’s Office and the Santa Clara County. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The deceased was booked into the jail by the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. Investigators from the Sheriff's Office arrived on scene to examine the death, and their preliminary findings have not indicated any evidence suggesting criminal activity or violence related to the fatality.
