Two juveniles, confirmed to be brothers aged 12 and 13, were at the heart of a high-speed car chase that rocked the streets of Seattle, as they led Seattle Police on a harrowing ride after an armed carjacking. The Seattle Police Department (SPD) reported that officers, who were investigating a separate incident, ended up pursuing the duo through the city's bustling avenues. According to a WPDE report, the dramatic escapade unfolded after a distressed woman reported being carjacked at gunpoint in the Greenwood neighborhood.
The chase began when officers spotted the stolen Subaru Outback around North 125th Street and Aurora Avenue North. The King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter joined the pursuit, which led to the eventual apprehension of the two young suspects. The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged the minors with an array of offenses including first-degree robbery involving a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, and unlawful possession of a firearm among other charges.
The initial incident was triggered around 8:30 p.m. on February 13, when the boys reportedly approached a man in an attempt to steal his vehicle and discharged a firearm into the air. Barely moments later, they accosted the woman who contacted the police, leading to their identification as the chase ensued. One of the boys implied the robbery was necessitated by being kicked out of their home, a justification he offered to the terrified victim, according to charging documents obtained by Police1.
Video footage from the chase recorded by body and dashboard cameras has been released by SPD, offering a stark look at the incidents leading to the boys' arrest. The suspects were arrested after leading the police through various Seattle neighborhoods, in an announcement SPD made on Thursday evening following the incident, Mid Michigan Now captured the chase’s footage.
