The Kirby Fire Department (KFD) has publicly disclosed their activity report for the absorbing month of January 2024, and the numbers are signaling a busy start to the New Year for our first responders. According to a release on the department's official Facebook page, the KFD responded to a total of 64 calls, which included battling blazes, providing emergency medical services, and even engaging in community assistance activities.
In a move to quickly respond to emergencies, the KFD evidently made efforts on emphasizing swift action and readiness. The community assistance, a non-emergency service, was not left behind either, with four such calls being handled, a testament to the department's commitment to serve and protect beyond the flames. Notably, the firefighters took on the significant load of medical incidents, accounting for over half of the calls, underscoring the first responders' vital role in the broader health and safety network of Kirby.
Property loss due to fire incidents, which is a key indicator of a fire department's efficacy, was reported at $2,000 for the month. This represents more than a simple monetary value; it speaks directly to the tangible impact of the KFD's intervention in preserving the livelihoods and possessions of Kirby's residents.
The report also detailed responses to alarm activations, which were substantial enough to warrant mention. The 11 instances of false alarms showcase the need to possibly enhance community awareness or equipment reliability to better support firefighters to focus their expertise on genuine emergencies. In an expression of absolute transparency, the department disclosed that volunteers generously contributed by donating a significant 1,044 hours of their time to keep Kirby safe.
